5 things i really want to do... [
]
[ mood | bored ]

  1. Snorkelling in deeper water, maybe even scuba diving - i had so much fun snorkelling in the shallows of the Great Barrier Reef. i'd so love to do it again in deeper water.

  2. Live in my house with a room mate - i'm hoping this will happen next year, depending on quite a few things. the idea of living with someone is exciting. living in a sharehouse is probably something most people do in their early 20's - i'm past that but i'm better off now and i really want full independence.

  3. Travel through Europe - hey, i'm quadlingual now so i'd have little communication problems and would probably significantly improve my skills. i'd love to live in Paris but work visas are difficult apparently. *sigh*

  4. Fall in love - with all of its messiness and complications.

  5. Get fit - probably not fit enough to run a marathon, but close enough would be nice :P

computers stuff & footy stuff & the extension [
]
i built my first computer yesterday!

being an IT girl, i should have done it aaages ago. but i have my sister who knows what she's doing, and, well, i'm lazy :P

my work has some sort of licensing deal with microsoft now too, so i can get legitimate software for free! seriously awesome. i've installed Windows 7 so far, and... nothing else! i need to clean out my room something chronic before replacing my old 'puter. i want Office 2007 too - it's different but i like it. if i'm really motivated i could get some developer tools too. we'll see :P

what makes me more happy is that i'm going to give away my old computer to someone who really really needs it - i certainly won't miss it and can't really ask too much for it anyway, so i'm doing a "good deed" instead. a woman at my mum's work is really struggling with money and her computer just died so i've offered it to her, just waiting to hear back if she wants it.

and i won $40 in a footy tipping competition! i finished 3rd but only 1 point behind first place. i went to the footy on friday and although i thought we'd win, i didn't expect it to be that much! (sorry [info]cheerygirl). we already have tickets to the next game - 4 of us are road tripping it down to Melbourne for the weekend. so exciting!

we now have cupboards at home (without handles - hoping to get them done this week). this means we can clean everything, put it all away and be able to live normally again! i should take photos of the piles of diorganised stuff we have for posterity. i doubt whether i'll still be living at home by the time everything is completely finished, but at least my mum got what she wanted eventually.

oddly enough, my other cat now has a personality. he (along with my dog) was dominated by his bigger 'brother'. no fights or anything, he was just the quiet cat who sat in the corner. now he's happy - he plays, cuddles and even meows. he has a super cute relationship with my dog - they like to cuddle, share each other's beds and play in the backyard.

i love seeing cats and dogs getting along :)

i had a few days off work this week to catch up on life stuff which was good. i cleaned my car out since the previous owner never vacuumed it. it's now grey instead of black. how gross is that?! i fixed the gas lift of the boot too, and changed the windscreen wipers. i cleaned my grandma's old 12 person dinner set which took ages. i cleaned my room out and organised a whole heap of stuff. i got through most of my to-do list which makes me feel accomplished.

and i missed work! that was weird. although i have returned feeling rather... invigorated i guess. i'm ready to get stuck into things and not take time off until next year. i really want to go to Europe. Egypt is just next door :)

oh and i bought Reebok pumps which were on sale. they're similar to the ones i had 16 years ago. the inner 11 year old is very very happy right now :D

  1. What is your favorite girl's name?

    Jasmine

  2. What is your favorite boy's name?

    Liam or Adrian

  3. What is the weirdest/most obnoxious name you've ever given to a pet?

well... i don't think any of them are obnoxious, but weirdest would have to be MacGyver. but then i didn't name him that, and i think it suits him well anyway :)

  4. What is/was your favorite pet?

um... no favourite really. i love them all for different reasons.

  5. What is your most cherished dream for your future?

lately, to have a family. that is really scary!

it's a 1992 Ford TX5. i ended up buying it from a friend for $200. he wanted to get rid of it and i was happy to take it for the same price as a pair of shoes!

i have a car, i don't have more debt and i can get rid of some debt i already have. awesome :)

ok, so i'm working on writing reports at work. i'm finally working on some interesting ones where i have to draw various rather funky graphs. the problem is that they take aaages to render. i guess that's what you get for using a rather new piece of software :P

so while i sit here waiting for my graphs to look all pretty, here's yet another survey (a substitute for slams perhaps?)

nostalgicness [

[ music | Snow Patrol - Make this go on Forever ]

i read a really cute little story in a blog about kids finding out the truth about Father Christmas, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy.

I can blame my "loss of innocence" on Phillip, a boy i went to school with (yep my all girls school did actually have boys up to yr 2) who took it upon himself to tell everyone that "Father Christmas isn't real". i wasn't sure whether to believe him since he had a bit of a reputation for making up stories - the year before he told me that he'd found a rat's tail in a pie (and i still think of that every time i see a pie... i can't eat the damn things. revolting!). so i thought about it all and came to the conclusion that Father Christmas had to be real - after all my mum wouldn't buy me a doll's house made of plastic, right? i decided to ask anyway. i told her my theory and she looked at me and told me that she had actually bought it. oops!

i can't even remember when/how i found out about the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy or if it all occurred as a result of finding about Father Christmas, but being the oldest i still got to pretend that it was all real for a few years after.

Christmas and Easter just don't hold that kind of magic when kids aren't around.

nothing is working properly, or going right today. the coffee man arrived too early, i'm being nagged by an absolute pain in the ass at work who is constantly asking me 1) stupid questions about basketball and 2) when the work he gave me will be finished when he knows full well that i'm working on other stuff and during my lunch break i saw my ex-boss who was sacked after hiring his girlfriend (which he kept hidden for 2 years) then i got back to work to find the the obnoxious sexist ageist ex-contractor is back to do more work with us.

today is evil. at least the Subaru dude hasn't called (yet)...

i miss you Nonna.

one of my cats is really really sick. he'll never recover so all we can do is treat the symptoms. he could have anywhere from a few weeks to a few years left although he improved almost instantly after we started treating him which the vet thinks is fantastic. what sucks is that it's highly contagious which means my other cat almost certainly has it too.

they're only 2 years old :(

[ music | general chatter ]

i've been looking at cars a lot lately. still debating used vs. new, but the car i want isn't really available used, plus it holds its value well. if a 3 year old car is only $2-3k less than a new one, i'd rather get the new one!

i want a Corolla. although i'd love to get a Celica for nostalgic reasons (and because they're awesome to drive!), they're not really practical - 2 doors and a tiny boot. plus second-hand Celicas aren't cheap! I like Toyotas because they're reliable and they don't die, but i'm sad because Corollas don't come in green :(

my dad will be home this weekend. i'm hoping that he'll have some time to go looking at dealers with me. he's a master at getting good deals (probably due to inbuilt tightarseness). until i get my own car a friend from work is lending me his which he won't be needing as he's moved into the city plus he wasn't supposed to have it but got it back as part of his divorce (long story). this means that i won't have to share with my brother anymore! he won't be able to take the car without telling me that he's going to take it! independence is my best friend.

Holiday Awesomeness #1: Cairns [
]
[ mood | tired ]
[ music | general chatter ]

thanks to a flight schedule change, we spent 3 nights in Cairns before leaving for Tokyo. i wasn't too keen on dealing with the humidity there, but it was actually nice to be able to unwind a bit before heading overseas.

i was keen to catch the train to Kuranda then go on the cablecar which goes over the canopy of the rainforest... problem is my friend isn't too keen on heights. plus it wasn't cheap (around $100 each), so we followed the advice of some locals and hired a car for the day instead. we drove up the coast which is stunning and went to Hartley's Creek Crocodile Farm - not my idea since i hate crocodiles but they had snakes there... and i got to hold one! i had a photo with an absolutely gorgeous python (not sure which type - was too excited to pay attention). other highlights included crocodile feeding time and finding a pretty snow white owl in a tree!

on the way back, we stopped at Kuranda and walked to Barron Falls which was spectacular. i was in awe, then i started wondering about how much bigger other waterfalls around the world are. i must see more waterfalls! we also stopped at several lookouts along the coast. it really is a beautiful part of the world, if you can get over the horrible weather :P

the next day we went on a day trip to Green Island which is in the inner part of the Great Barrier Reef. we had lunch and walked through the mini rainforest on the island then went on a glass submarine tour of the reef. i also went snorkelling on my own (since my friend can't swim). i'd never been snorkelling before and found it really difficult to start with - i was just about ready to give up when all of a sudden it clicked, and i was away! it was so much fun and i could have stayed out there a lot longer but we couldn't miss the boat :(

for any foodies out there, highlights included a big steak at the Bull Bar and an awesome Mexican banquet at the Bucking Mex where we also tried to order cactus fries (seriously) but they'd sold out!

we also saw The Watchmen although i fell asleep. i fall asleep way too easily :P

we then said goodbye to Cairns to be welcomed by Tokyo!

i'm back. already.

Japan is truly awesome! i loved it so much more than i'd expected and 2 weeks there wasn't long enough. i really thought i'd be overwhelmed by the size of Tokyo, being the most populous city in the world, but it really didn't bother me all that much. the only time i noticed it was peak-hour in the subway which was crazy but an experience nonetheless.

i'm amazed at how many people are keen to see photos! i thought it was something that wasn't all that popular... i've been asked to do a slide show presentation at work!

i should write a summary on each place we visited.

the good: i'll be on holidays in 8 days!

the bad: i have bronchitis

the ugly: if i don't rest enough to get better i could be banned from going on a plane!

which is why i've done nothing for the last 3 days...

(you know you're really not well when a doctor exclaims "you poor thing!" when you go to see him.)

[ music | tv ]

there's a guy i know through sociable dog owners in my area - i knew he was in a band and 2 days ago i heard an ad on tv for the Fringe opening party concert. i heard the name of a band that i thought sounded like his. a little bit of internet research confirmed that it is his band and also that his band played at the Big Day Out in 2007!!!

which explains why he was very interested in my thoughts about the BDO this year...

the concert is this friday. i'm so going!

the funny thing is that he's recently split from his girlfriend and after i last saw him 2 other owners were discussing his hotness and new-found singleness. they were keen to find out when and where his band will be playing, so i'll fill them in on what i've found out when i see them next.

us dog owners are so primitive though. i should really get their phone numbers or email addresses so i can get in contact with them without having to rely on possibly meeting at the park at the same time :P

[in other news, i'm sick. i feel like i've been dining on sandpaper and my lungs are drowning. so not cool! i doubt that i'll be going to work tomorrow but i feel like a tossbag by having to go to the doctor for a sick certificate. waste of $50!]
